Director's Message

Success is nothing but self-discipline manifested.

Hi,
In my personal experience, the hardest thing to master is self-discipline. And I firmly believe the ones who can master themselves, can do wonders.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.” — I read it somewhere and I completely abide by it. All of us suffer from varying degrees of indiscipline and I have been there too. But to rise up the ladder, there are a few mechanisms or ways of life that I have realized.

Happy to share :

a) Set a goal with a reward
Lets say you want to start jogging daily. You are super motivated and then you see that - you do not have proper jogging shoes. WAIT, DO NOT INDULGE. A simple technique to set a goal and reward yourself.

Tell yourself - I will buy new shoes only if - I consistently jog for 20 minutes/day for the next 4 weeks and touch X miles per day

b) Know Your Weaknesses
Lack of self-discipline leads to discord, indecision, and frustration. Everyone has moments of weaknesses OR things which will tempt you to the point of breaking your self-discipline. Identify them and put conscious effort to tackle those.

Eg. If you feel hungry at around 4 pm everyday and you have a habit of munching on something unhealthy - then what are you going to do about it ?

Now that you have identified your weakness, acknowledge it - and try to fix it. Maybe, simply carry a fruit with you everyday to satiate your 4 pm cravings.

c) Develop Habits
Don't rely on will-power alone. It usually doesn't last. Instead develop habits you can lean on.

Eg. Plan small goals and pursue till they become habits :
- Like 10k steps everyday
- Reading few pages every day
- Giving 20 mnts everyday into learning something new
- Adding 2 new words to your vocab everyday
(trust me I did this - by learning one new word everyday - and did it for 1000 days)

d) Finish what you start
It's really easy to start something - but really difficult to finish. Finishing/achieving goals you really need to be aggressive and ruthless and committed about it. Do not stop till its done. At times you have dependencies and you get stuck - BUT these are all roadblocks. You cannot let the end-goal die in your mind. Keep it ALIVE in your thoughts and PUSH.

e) Surround Yourself With Self Disciplined People
Birds of a feather flock together. You are who you hang out with. It’s almost common knowledge that if you want to achieve real success and self improvement, you need to surround yourself with successful people. The same holds true if you want to have more self discipline. It’s almost impossible not to improve when everyone around you has a higher degree of self discipline than you.

Leo’s Roar by Leo

Greetings! Wow, another month gone and time to reflect on where we’re headed. I, for one, have a plan … with goals and objectives. Actually, I have three plans: a short-term, an intermediate, and a long-term plan. Do you? Let’s talk about them in reverse order. You can’t plan for today if you don’t know where you’re going tomorrow.

Long-term Plan

I define long-term as anything twenty or more years in the future. And I generally re-invent myself every 20 years or so. Lions have a short attention span, so I expect I’ll get bored doing the same thing for more than 20 years. Think about it … careers last about 20 years. My first 20 years was spent growing up, getting educated, maturing into an adult. I played games and chased my siblings and friends. But I also learned things, like how to roar …. and more importantly, when to roar. I’m good at it know. So, my long-term goal is to put my training to work and become the best I can be at my chosen profession, being the boss (king in Lion-speak). I’m only a middle-manager now (prince in lion-speak), so I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

Intermediate Plan

My intermediate plan covers the next 5 years. It’s where I focus on identifying achievable goals. Concurrently, I pay a lot of attention to budgeting the funds (money) required to bring these goals to fruition. I must force myself to save money … or I’ll find myself stuck just trying to survive day-to-day. My goals for the next five years are to have my own house, a partner to share my life, and establish my reputation as a professional leader (the definition of a great lion). My grandfather recorded the opening roar for MGM studios. Who hasn’t seen his picture at the opening of great movies! Oh … and my great-great-great grandfather (about 4,000 years ago) was the inspiration for the Sphinx at Cairo in Egypt. [I come from great stock.] So, maybe I’ll make it to Bollywood. Time will tell.

Short-term Plan

My daily focus is the year ahead, my short-term plan. The work assigned to me by Kunalsinh, my responsibilities to my family and my community, and my personal pass-times (my reading list, my hobbies, my health, my continuing education, and certifications). Yes, I beat that drum for me, too. Certifications are important steps that document my journey to professional mastery. I have a laundry list of short-term goals, including running a marathon next year. I’ll share more about my short-term goals (and how I’m progressing) next month.

So, my challenge for all of you is GET ORGANIZED. Think about your life plan. Where will you be in another year, five years, twenty years? I know where I’m going. Join me on this great journey. And, as Kunalsinh says, ““Be Safe, Work Hard, Eat Well, Sleep Tight”. I do!

Bye for now … Leo

Festival

7th - 14th October 2021
Navratri

Navratri

Navaratri is a Hindu festival that spans nine nights (and ten days) and is celebrated every year in the autumn. It is observed for different reasons and celebrated differently in various parts of the Indian cultural sphere. This festival is celebrated as a victory of good over evil. Godess Durga has killed demon Mahisasur. These nine days are solely dedicated to Durga and her eight avatars – the Nine Durga. Each day is associated to an incarnation of the goddess

Celebrations include worshipping nine goddesses in nine days, stage decorations, recital of the legend, enacting of the story, and chanting of the scriptures of Hinduism. The nine days are also a major crop season cultural event, such as competitive design and staging of pandals, a family visit to these pandals, and the public celebration of classical and folk dances of Hindu culture. Hindu devotees often celebrate Navaratri by fasting. On the final day, called Vijayadashami, the statues are either immersed in a water body such as a river or ocean, or the statue symbolizing the evil is burnt with fireworks, marking the destruction of evil. The festival also starts the preparation for Diwali, the festival of lights, which is celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.

Halloween

Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago, mostly in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1.This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31 they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
